Theater
curtains are showing up a home! Now you don’t have
to have season tickets to the ballet or the budget of a gold
sponsor to enjoy the rich, luxurious fabrics of theater curtains.
Home decorating is the perfect opportunity to use theater
drapes from everything to window coverings to spectacular
fabric lined walls.
Theater Drapes as Window Coverings
Theater curtains and drapes make ideal window coverings.
Just think about it. They are extra
long and thick and
often come backed and ready to hang. This plush fabric
in extra large sizes also provides effective insulations
to those grand windows in your home.
If
you don’t need all the fullness of a theater
curtain found on the stage, then the fabric is a
great find. Cut up, a theater drape can be fashioned
into just about any window covering that calls for a
heavy weight fabric.
Going Beyond Windows
The fabric of theater curtains is easily formed into some
of the finest slipcovers and fabric walls. To make a slip
cover from a theater curtain, you can lay it over the sofa,
reverse side up. Then pin the fabric to the fit the sofa
snugly. Use enough pins to resemble a seam line. This will
become your stitch line when you take it to the machine.
Once you make the stitches, cut off the excess fabric along
the seam line. Turn it right side out and you will have
a custom made slip cover for a fraction of the cost just
by using the fabric from theater curtains.
A wall
covered in fabric offers more than just a lovely splash
of colour. Fabric walls made from heavy theater drapes
will also provide soundproofing between rooms. It is
the ideal solution to apartment living, where painting
isn’t permitted.
Theater curtains are also a way to hide storage shelving.
A rod suspended from the ceiling can turn one living space
into two when from it hangs richly coloured theater curtains.
