A
shower curtain can set the tone for a bathroom just as the
bedspread becomes the focal point of the bedroom. By choosing
a design that reflects the overall look you want for your
bathroom, you can create a fashionable, comfortable look
for one of the most used rooms in the house. While many people
put money and effort into decorating the more public rooms
of their homes, a little luxury in the bathroom lets family
members feel like they are getting the same special treatment
your guests receive. A shower curtain then becomes much more
than a way to hold back a shower’s spray.
Luxury Shower Curtains
Whether
your tastes leans toward the modern and chic, country
charm or ruffles and frills, there are luxury
shower curtains to create a back drop for the entire bathroom.
These generally are intended to be decorative as they
help frame out the shower area, much like drapes frame
a room’s
windows. The plush fabrics and design details do
not even necessarily need to be waterproof. Special liners
that serve that utilitarian purpose can always be added
to protect the more luxurious outer fabric.
A designer
shower curtain is another way to add luxury to this important
room. These curtains often contain design features and
colours unique to a specific designer. Along with this
you can often find the type of accessories from the same
designer that tie the whole room together. These may
include curtain rods, soap dispensers, window curtains,
and towels all with the same design theme. Adding complimentary
area rugs will tie the shower curtain’s colour
theme with the entire space.
Design Considerations
It is just as important with bathroom design as in any
other room to use good design principles. These include
size, scale and placement.
Size:
The size of your shower may be a little large or small
for the room’s space. By hanging the shower
curtain a little higher, a shower will appear taller
than it actually is.
Scale: The scale of the pattern on the curtain is as important
as the colour. Large geometric patterns or oversize floral
may make the space appear crowded and over decorated. Conversely,
a tiny pattern may look lost in a very large bathroom.
Placement:
Placement of accessories can make a difference too. Tie
backs can be used on an over laying shower curtain and
should be place lower to add height and higher to bring
down an overly high ceiling.
